Rock On!!!

Usually when the kids are in the car with me they watch a DVD, so I just get lost in my own thoughts. Or they all fight over what we listen to.

The boys like "Nock n Noll" and Caiden calls it. (Rock and Roll.)

He sits back in his seat and pretends like he is playing the drums. He gets very focused. The other day a car pulled up to me and the man driving was trying to get my attention, I kinda got flattered for a second because it seems like it's been IONS since someone has tried to hit on me, not that I care, ........... I'm just saying.

Anyways, I digress, so this guy is trying to get my attention and he is CRACKING up and pointing at my back seat. I look back there and Caiden is totally in a zone!!!

NOCK n NOLL ZONE!!!

I wish I could figure out how to take pictures behind me and still drive at the same time. It was hilarious.

His music preference is Lincoln Park, Beastie Boys, Muse, ............that sort of thing. He DOES NOT like girl music. Song's that are by or about girls. We were listening to Beastie Boys and "Girls" came on. He got very perturbed and asked, "Why are their so many songs about girls!!! Why do boys like girls!!! I don't get it!" Then he threw his hand up in the air in frustration. Keep on thinking that way buddy!!!

Blaise likes Rock and Roll too. But a different kind. I do not much enjoy his musical style. I was reading in his "about me" book that he made in school, and I have to admit that I am somewhat shocked that Social Services hasn't paid me a lovely little visit yet.

When asked "Favorite Song." He said : "Raining Blood".
When asked "Favorite Family Story" He said: "My brother is really mean. One time he was so mean that my Mom got him in BIG BIG BIG trouble, I didn't see my brother all day".
When asked "What do you want to be when you grow up." He said: "In the Army. I like guns, and tanks and blowing things up."

NICE!!!

Now the whole army thing didn't really upset me, mainly cause I have tried SO hard to not let guns in the house. For the longest time I didn't even let squirt guns in the house. The hubster kept informing me that it's just a boy thing, it doesn't mean they will grow up to be demented killers. Boys just like guns. But I was determined that if I could keep guns away, they wouldn't like them. ................that was until I saw them having a little war one morning at the breakfast table . . . . . their banana's were being used as guns.

I guess Hubster was right . . . . . little boys just like guns, and they will make guns out of everything, Lego's, fingers, and bananana's.

The thing that DID upset me was that his favorite song is "Raining Blood." Now granted, I have heard this song many a times. My hubby LOVES this type of music, and I have asked him to be careful with what the boys hear!!! I mean grown men screaming about blood and death and whatever else they are saying that you can't understand because you are in a trance by the rythm of the drums and guitars can't be good for young minds. Hubby says that he doesn't even know the words, he just likes the music. But the titles are bad enough. So he IS careful, and Raining Blood is just a lot of guitar and drums, and it's Blaise's favorite song to play on Guitar Hero, which is what Blaise likes, but the title, ........... it kinda makes me look bad.

Now Avery. She is a hoot. Her latest thing is lip syncing to a song. She does it ALL the time. I need to tape it and show y'all. She moves her shoulders around all provocative like and shimmy's her little butt. It's cute, really.

She likes Hanna Montana, or Miley Cyrus, whichever one she is. She likes pop songs, things she can shake it to. She LOVES it's Raining Men, and the other day "Rebel Yell" came on by Billy Idol and she was in Heaven. I don't blame her, it's a good song, and truth be told, I had a little crush on Billy when I was younger. Don't you judge me!

So now that I've got you all convinced that I am the world's greatest Mom, let me tell you about my musical stylings. No wonder my kids are messed up. I've noticed that when I am by myself I like to listen to music that I can dance too. That I can get my groove going. Most of these songs are HIGHLY suggestive. I find myself singing along and dancing away. I don't know what's up with musicians. Why do they write songs about half the stuff they sing about. Now I know, I listen to it, but I think they could change the lyrics and still have great songs. I don't listen to these songs for the words, I listen for the groove.

My point. Yesterday I had a song stuck in my head all the lived long day!!! It is an AWFUL song, but it's SO good. It's called "I kissed a girl, and I liked it." It's by a girl. I was going to put it on here so you could hear the song, but I thought I would spare you of it being stuck in your head too! It's a very catchy song, and it's one of my new favorites, but I can not like it!! I can not!!

I know the song would be JUST AS catchy with different lyrics. Something more "mommy-esque!"

I came up with a few of my own -

" I made a pie, and I like it!" or
" I cleaned my house and it's still clean!" or even
" No, you can't have a cookie!"

And if these lyrics are too bland for main stream America, I could spice it up a little bit. It could go something like -
"I look so hot in high heels!"

So if any of you are aspiring musicians, I can help you come up with some good lyrics that won't taint our young minds. We don't need to sing about Blood or Men raining from the sky. We don't need to sing so many songs about girls, and about kissing them. We can sing about things that warm are hearts and fill our belly's, and I will still be a fan!!!

The End.

Hee Hee You so deserve the mom of the year award on this one. However, my children's favorite songs are "Stacey's Mom Has Got It Going On", and "1985" where she sings about only being with one man her whole life and that her plan used to be to get her "hand" on a member of Duran Duran. So, apparently we both have very GOOD taste in music and it is rubbing off on our innocent children! Great post!

This is my favorite post so far that I've read of yours. I was smiling like a moron through the whole thing, nodding my head along and feeling certain we would be good friends if only...

I am feelin' you one every point you made. There's just too many to mention...I may as well have written this post myself. Too funny.

AHHH, WHERE WOULD WE ALL BE WITHOUT MUSIC IN OUR LIVES. GOOD, BAD AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. IT IS FUN TIMES WHEN YOUR CHILDREN GET OLD ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND OR SING TO THE WORDS OF THE SONGS YOU LISTEN TO.

NOTHING LIKE YOUR FOUR YEAR OLD SON LOUDLY SINGING/"YELLING" THE WORDS "HOT TRAMP, I LOVE YOU SO." TO BOWIE. OR HAVING TO EXPLAIN TO YOUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER, WHAT A CERTAIN ACTIVITY AT A THEATER MEANS, FROM AN ALANIS MORISSETTE SONG. THEN THERE IS THE WHOLE SINGING THE WRONG WORDS TO A SONG, LIKE "SNAP MY PICTURE". (INSIDE FAMILY JOKE, THOSE OF YOU INVOLVED KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT). OR A CHILD SINGING SO LOUDLY IN THE CAR, IT DRIVES THE DAD CRAZY UNTIL HE YELLS, SETTING A LIFETIME OF TEASING FROM SAID CHILD'S SIBBLINGS. OH, YEAH, ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES CRANKING UP A NEW WARRANT CD RECEIVED FOR CHRISTMAS AND GETTING THE SHOCK OF THE LAST SONG "ODE TO TIPPER CORE", LOUD AND IN STEREO. AHHH, GOOD TIMES. MUSIC HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIG PART OF OUR FAMILY, IT HAS MADE FOR SOME FUN, AND CHERRISHED MEMORIES. GLAD YOU ARE NOW ENTERING THIS FUN STAGE WITH YOUR OWN LITTLE MOTELY CREW.

Oh dear Heather, your kids are headed straight for juvey! All we ever listen to when the kids are around is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I'm so JUST KIDDING!!! Addison seems to like the musical stylings of the Offspring, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Nirvana (I guess you can tell her parents grew up in the grunge era huh?).
Your stories crack me up. I can just see Caiden drumming his little heart out. And Blaise's "about me" book is awesome.
